Vocal fold polyps are benign mass lesions located on the vocal folds. Frequently they are caused by phonotraumatic events (voice overuse). Although polyps are not malignant, they can lead to a severe handicap by causing significant hoarseness.
Because polyps might interfere significantly with daily speech and cause frequent throat clearing, we recommend phonomicrosurgical, delicate removal with high precision instruments or specialized fiber-guided lasers. After adequate microsurgery, in most cases, polyps will not recur again.
