Dear Sarah, I have a very good control of my real voice without vibrations, major intonationproblems or breathing problems. Like that day and still today, it is difficult for me to find the right words toexpress my gratitude to you, Prof. Hess and all your staff. The way we communicated was very helpful. This was crucial for me. The only time I experienced severe anxiety attacks was when I reached the topfloor of the clinic building and opened the heavy door of the Medical VoiceCenter. In the waiting room then there was a crescendo of alternating feelingsdisturbing me as I filled out a questionnaire and saw people from different partsof the world entering and leaving the waiting room. When my time came, I was alone in the room and I was met by an assistant who, with her verbal communication, immediately broke my state of anxiety and fromthen on things went smoothly. I can talk freely with people now and smile. However, serenity and happiness willcome gradually, you cannot fill a big void in a short time. This condition has prevented me from emancipating myself as I would have liked inadult life and I had to endure the looks of underestimation from others. I cannot change the past but If I was able to achieve this in Hamburg, I am optimistic for the future. Very truly yours, E.
